The Upside of Iris

Role: Writer · Director · Art Director

Whimsical, bittersweet, and deeply human, The Upside of Iris is an illustrated short film that follows a young woman who quite literally sees the world upside down. Told through painterly visuals and storybook narration, the piece explores the tension between logic and wonder—how adulthood reorders the world we once viewed through imagination.

I conceived, wrote, and directed the project, leading all aspects of art direction and visual development. The result blends cinematic composition with the intimacy of a picture book, creating a world at once nostalgic and dreamlike. Every frame was designed to balance emotional storytelling with visual rhythm, guiding the audience through Iris’s journey of rediscovering magic in an ordinary life.
